      The School of Rehabilitation Medicine at Wenzhou Medical University was founded in 2021. It began enrolling undergraduate students in Rehabilitation Therapy in 2004 and currently offers three undergraduate majors: Rehabilitation Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation, and Audiology and Speech‑Language Rehabilitation. The university was authorized to offer master’s programs in Rehabilitation Medicine and Physiotherapy in 2007, doctoral programs in 2017, and a postdoctoral research station (Clinical Medicine – Rehabilitation Medicine and Physiotherapy) in 2024. It has established a comprehensive, multi‑tiered talent training system covering undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral education.


      In June 2025, according to the 2025 ShanghaiRanking’s China University Major Rankings, our Rehabilitation Therapy program was rated Grade A and ranked 8th nationwide. In the same year, the rehabilitation discipline was designated as a National Key Clinical Specialty.The School boasts a distinguished faculty team, including 3 national‑level talents, 1 chief scientist of the National Key Research and Development Program, and 1 scientist listed among the world’s top 2% most influential scientists. Fifty percent of the faculty members have overseas study experience, and all faculty hold doctoral degrees. Five faculty members have received provincial and ministerial talent honors. A total of 28 supervisors for master’s and doctoral candidates, including members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Changjiang Scholars, are affiliated with the School. Three faculty members serve as chairpersons or vice‑chairpersons of national academic societies. Over the past five years, the School has led 1 National Key Research and Development Program, 13 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and 5 research projects with funding exceeding one million yuan each. Faculty have received 6 provincial and ministerial‑level awards and 12 authorized invention patents.


      The Rehabilitation Therapy major was selected as a National First‑Class Undergraduate Major Development Site in 2022. The School has been awarded 2 National First‑Class Undergraduate Courses, 2 provincial education reform projects and courses, 1 key textbook for the 14th Five‑Year Plan for “Four New” disciplines in Zhejiang general higher education, and the first People’s Medical Publishing House textbook series Artificial Intelligence + Rehabilitation. It has also established the Wenzhou Industrial College and Collaborative Innovation Center, and pioneered the minor program in Artificial Intelligence and Rehabilitation in China.


      The School currently has more than 500 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. To date, it has produced over 1,400 undergraduate graduates and more than 200 master’s and doctoral graduates. Graduates pursue careers in healthcare, higher education, rehabilitation‑related enterprises, and research institutions. Many alumni have become presidents of tertiary Class A general hospitals and specialized rehabilitation hospitals, directors of rehabilitation departments, university faculty, and enterprise executives. According to the Zhejiang Provincial Education Examination Authority, graduate satisfaction with their alma mater ranks among the top of similar institutions in the province.


      The School is equipped with abundant research and teaching platforms, including the Southern Zhejiang Rehabilitation Industry Transformation Center. It hosts the Vice‑Chairperson Unit of the Pain Rehabilitation Committee of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine and houses the Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Acupuncture and Rehabilitation.The School actively promotes university‑local and university‑enterprise cooperation. It has established research collaborations with institutions including the Yunnan Hot Spring Health Research Institute, Zhejiang Haozhonghao Health Products Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Yikang Medical Equipment Industrial Co., Ltd., Henan Xiangyu Medical Equipment Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Flight Intelligent Medical Technology Co., Ltd., with a total introduced funding of 25.5 million yuan.


      The School vigorously advances international exchanges and cooperation to enhance its global influence. Faculty members serve on the editorial boards of several prominent international SCI and SSCI journals and have led the development of 4 international rehabilitation expert consensuses/guidelines. The School annually hosts high‑level academic events such as the Wenzhou International Conference on Rehabilitation and the Science and Technology for Disability Assistance Forum of the World Young Scientist Summit. It has established joint education and research partnerships with internationally renowned universities and research institutions, including the University of Alberta (Canada), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong SAR, China), ESIH – École Supérieure d’Ingénieurs en Hématologie et Réadaptation (France), and Burapha University (Thailand).
