Introduction of School of Rehabilitation Medicine
The Rehabilitation Medicine School of Wenzhou Medical University can be traced back to the Rehabilitation Therapy Department established in 2003. It began admitting undergraduate students in Rehabilitation Therapy in 2004 and is one of the earliest universities in China to admit undergraduate students in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. Starting from 2007, we began admitting Master's students in Rehabilitation Medicine and Physiotherapy. In 2017, we began admitting Doctoral students in Rehabilitation Medicine. In 2021, we began admitting Doctoral students in Medical Technology (Rehabilitation Direction). Our school is one of the few departments in China that has dual doctoral programs. In 2021, Wenzhou Medical University and China Rehabilitation Research Center jointly set up the school of Rehabilitation Medicine. Li Xiaokun, an academician of the CAE Member and president of Wenzhou Medical University, served as the first president of the College. In 2022, the Rehabilitation Therapy major was selected as a national first-class professional construction site. In 2023, undergraduate majors in Sports Rehabilitation, Speech and Hearing Therapy were offered.
In May 2024, the school was approved as a postdoctoral mobile station (Clinical Medicine Rehabilitation Medicine and Physiotherapy). In June 2024, according to the "2024 Ranking of Chinese Universities in Soft Science", our rehabilitation therapy major was evaluated as A, ranking 8th in China.
The school has a strong faculty and is jointly run by the First Affiliated Hospital and the Second Affiliated Hospital WMU. There are more than 100 professional teachers, including 5 doctoral supervisors and 56 master supervisors. In the past five years, the college has obtained 26 provincial and ministerial-level fund projects, including 9 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and published 87 papers in domestic and foreign academic journals, including 63 papers included in SCI and EI, and won 4 national awards and 1 provincial and ministerial award. A total of 11 authorized invention patents have been obtained.
The school adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating people, and cultivates applied technical talents with a solid foundation, strong skills, broad vision, and heavy feelings. There are 67 master and doctoral students and 492 undergraduates. So far, the college has trained more than 1,200 undergraduate graduates and more than 200 master and doctoral students. Many students have grown into business backbones and unit leaders.
The school has rich resources in scientific research and teaching platforms, including the Sino American acupuncture and moxibustion Rehabilitation Research Institute, acupuncture and moxibustion Rehabilitation Key Laboratory in Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou Key Laboratory and other scientific research platforms, as well as basic laboratories, sports therapy laboratories, occupational therapy laboratories, rehabilitation evaluation laboratories, rehabilitation engineering laboratories, traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation laboratories, physical therapy laboratories, speech laboratories and other teaching platforms, which can meet the needs of students and continuing education.
