    I. Introduction to the Rehabilitation School

    The School of Rehabilitation Medicine at Wenzhou Medical University was founded in 2021. Its inaugural Dean is Li Xiaokun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Wenzhou Medical University. The School currently offers three undergraduate programs: Rehabilitation Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation, and Speech Therapy. Among these, the Rehabilitation Therapy program began enrolling undergraduate students in 2004, making WMU one of the earliest institutions in China to offer this major. In 2022, the Rehabilitation Therapy program was selected as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program Development Site. The School is qualified to train Master's and Doctoral students in rehabilitation and is among the first rehabilitation disciplines in China to possess dual doctoral programs in Clinical Medicine--Rehabilitation Medicine & Physiotherapy and Medical Technology.

    II. Profile of the Inaugural Dean


    Li Xiaokun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of Wenzhou Medical University, Dean of the School of Rehabilitation Medicine at WMU, Chief Scientist of the Oujiang Laboratory, Director of the National Key Laboratory of Macromolecular Drugs and Large-scale Manufacturing, and Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Protein Drugs (Cell Growth Factors) and Formulations. His primary research focuses on the basic theory and new drug development of protein drugs represented by growth factors, particularly the function, systematic theory, and drug research of the Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGFs) family. He pioneered the development of several Class I new drugs and Class III drug-loaded medical devices for promoting tissue injury repair and regeneration internationally. He has published over 200 papers in journals such as Nature (2023, 2018), Cell Metabolism, Molecular Cell, and Circulation. He has received significant awards including the National Technology Invention Award (Second Class), National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class), Natural Science Award (First Class) from the Ministry of Education, Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, Tan Jiazhen Life Science Award, Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, and the Translational Medicine Outstanding Contribution Award.

    III. Profile of the Dean


    Wang Xueqiang, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, Dean of the School of Rehabilitation Medicine at Wenzhou Medical University, Vice President of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Chief Scientist of a National Key R&D Program of China, Program Director for the National First-Class Undergraduate Program in Rehabilitation Therapy, recognized in the "World's Top 2% Scientists 2025", and Leader of the Key Clinical Rehabilitation Discipline in Zhejiang Province. His research field is Sports Rehabilitation and Pain, with an H-index of 33. He has led 4 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and has received awards such as the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation Young Teachers Fund from the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Talent Development Fund, and the Shanghai Young Scientific and Technological Talents Sailing Program. He serves as Associate Editor for the SCI journal Trials and is on the editorial board of BMC Geriatrics. His professional appointments include: Vice Chairman of the Pain Rehabilitation Professional Committee, Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine; Vice Chairman of the Ankle Rehabilitation Professional Committee, CARM; Chairman of the Youth Working Committee, Sports Health Science Branch, Chinese Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics; and Member of the Committee, Sports Rehabilitation Branch, China Sport Science Society. As first author or corresponding author, he has published SCI papers in journals such as JAMA Network Open (IF=13.35), Brain, Behavior, and Immunity (IF=15.1), and Environment International (IF=11.8), with 8 papers having an IF ≥ 10. In 2024, he received the First Prize of the Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine as the primary completer. In 2020, he led the development of one of the first batch of National First-Class Undergraduate Online Courses as the primary completer. In 2019, he received the Third Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award as the primary completer. In 2021, he was recognized as an Outstanding Clinical Rehabilitation Discipline Leader in Shanghai. In 2022, he received the Second Prize of the Shanghai Municipal Teaching Achievement Award as the primary completer, and contributed as the third completer to a project awarded the First Prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award. He has led the development of 2 international guidelines/consensuses and 2 Chinese expert consensuses, with one guideline/consensus ranking first in the field of rehabilitation/pain medicine in China. According to rankings released by the Global Scholar Library, he was ranked first in the 2022 list of high-productivity scholars in the field of rehabilitation medicine in China, and fourth in the 2023 list of scholars by academic influence in the same field. In 2025, he was selected for the national major talent engineering project "Chang Jiang Scholars Program".
