On November 15th, the 2024 World Youth Scientists Summit "Technology Ignites the Light of Rehabilitation" Technology Assistance Forum, hosted by the Chinese Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics and Wenzhou Medical University, and supported by the Wenzhou Disabled Persons' Federation, was held at the Chashan Campus of Wenzhou Medical University. Academicians, rehabilitation experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs from both domestic and foreign fields gathered in Wenzhou to discuss the application and innovation of smart technology in the field of rehabilitation and disability assistance.

Zhou Changkui, Secretary of the Party Group and Chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Zhang Jiabo, Deputy Secretary of the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee, Chen Peijie, President of the Sports and Health Science Branch of the Chinese Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics, and Jin Huanmin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Wenzhou Medical University, delivered speeches. Li Xiaokun, with the title "Construction of China's Rehabilitation Service System" and based on personal experience, elaborated on the importance and urgency of rehabilitation medicine, calling for it to be listed as a first level medical discipline, and advocating for the integration of education, physical education, medicine, health, and care to jointly build a healthy ecosystem. He called on all sectors of society to work together, not only to contribute to improving the national health level, but also to establish a good image and influence of Chinese rehabilitation medicine on the international stage.

Dong Erdan analyzed the current situation of China's rehabilitation industry with the title "Exploration and Practice of Building a New Research University in the Field of Life and Health Based on Cross Innovation and Highlighting Rehabilitation Characteristics". He pointed out that China's current industry scale is relatively small and backward, lacking world leading enterprises. At the same time, the establishment of rehabilitation universities should be committed to promoting the industrialization of the rehabilitation field.

Chen Peijie, titled "Reflections on the Development and Evolution of Sports Science in China under the Promotion of New Quality Productivity: Form, Value, and Path," introduced the integration and innovation of sports and rehabilitation studies in domestic universities from the perspective of sports rehabilitation, exploring another path to promote the development of the rehabilitation industry.

Liu Zhen reviewed the research and development history of rehabilitation robots, introduced the classification and characteristics of robots, and focused on the research and development of rehabilitation robots, especially those that wear exoskeletons for lower limb rehabilitation. He also looked forward to the development trends and prospects of rehabilitation robots.

Xue Wei introduced the series of exploration achievements of Oujiang Laboratory in the field of rehabilitation, such as the establishment of the "iRest Intelligent Rehabilitation Robot R&D Center" with iRest and the joint research and development of intelligent rehabilitation equipment combining medical treatment and work, under the title of "Industry University Research Collaboration Technology Assistance for the Disabled - Innovative Development of Intelligent Rehabilitation Equipment". Oujiang Laboratory's continued deep cultivation will continue to contribute to the fields of technology assistance for the disabled and health care.

Academician Jin Hulin of the Russian and Ukrainian Academy of Engineering, and Vice President Wang Xueqiang of the Wenzhou Medical University Rehabilitation Medical College, respectively presided over the keynote speeches.

This forum is not only a valuable platform for academic exchange, but also a bridge for school enterprise cooperation and local collaborative development, becoming a good opportunity to promote the development of new productive forces in the field of rehabilitation medicine.

On the forum, the Wenzhou Initiative for Technology Assistance to the Disabled was officially released. This initiative promotes the establishment of a "Rehabilitation Technology Innovation Community", a "Rehabilitation Industry Development Collaboration", and a "Rehabilitation Talent Support Alliance" to promote the development of new quality productivity in the field of rehabilitation for people with disabilities.

The forum also commended outstanding papers on sports and health, outstanding achievements in rehabilitation technology innovation and entrepreneurship, and held a celebration ceremony for the 20th anniversary of the rehabilitation program at Wenzhou Medical University. It is reported that the Rehabilitation Therapy major has been recruiting students since 2004 and has trained over 1200 undergraduate students and 200 master's and doctoral students in the past 20 years of operation. Several leading companies in the industry have also brought the latest technological products, showcasing excellent achievements in technology assistance for the disabled in multiple dimensions.

This forum lasts for three days and has 14 sub venues covering cutting-edge rehabilitation fields such as intelligent rehabilitation for the disabled, autism rehabilitation, sports rehabilitation, integration of sports and medicine, and clinical application of isokinetic technology.

The Disabled Persons' Federation of 17 provinces, regions and municipalities across the country, the Party Committee and Government of Haixi Prefecture in Qinghai Province and Aksu Prefecture in Xinjiang supported by Zhejiang Province, representatives of more than 70 high-tech disability assistance enterprises nationwide, member units of the Disabled Persons' Work Committee of Wenzhou Municipal Government, representatives of young scientists, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, responsible persons of relevant universities, research institutions, special education schools and rehabilitation institutions, outstanding disabled persons' representatives, gold medalists of the Paris Paralympic Games, Wenzhou athletes, and responsible persons of relevant functional departments of the school attended the meeting.

The holding of this forum has promoted exchanges and cooperation in the field of rehabilitation technology at home and abroad, further promoting the development of technology assisted disability, lighting up the light of rehabilitation for people with disabilities with technology, and empowering people with disabilities to have a better and happier life.
