On April 15, the launch ceremony of the strategic collaboration between Wenzhou Medical University and the Pingyang County People's Government, along with the conference focused on the "Strong City Initiative" to accelerate the high-quality development of healthcare and wellness services, was held in Pingyang County, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Through the joint establishment of the Zhejiang South Rehabilitation Industry Transformation Center, both parties will further strengthen the construction of Pingyang's rehabilitation system, enhance the wellness industry, and accelerate the development of Wenzhou as a leading hub for rehabilitation healthcare.

Located in the southeastern part of Zhejiang Province, Pingyang serves as a sub-center of the Wenzhou metropolitan area. In recent years, Pingyang has placed great emphasis on university-local collaboration by leveraging the scientific research and talent advantages of higher education institutions to meet local development needs. It has successively established the Wenzhou Medical University Pingyang Hospital, Zhejiang Cancer Hospital Pingyang Branch, and Zhejiang Chinese Medical University Pingyang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, providing strong support for the high-quality development of Pingyang's healthcare sector.

On site, Wenzhou Medical University and the Pingyang County People's Government signed an agreement to jointly build the Zhejiang South Rehabilitation Industry Transformation Center. Based on Pingyang's existing industrial foundation and development plans, and incorporating Wenzhou Medical University's strengths in scientific research, education, and talent, the center will focus on serving Pingyang's medical and rehabilitation industries. It aims to enhance technological cooperation and technology transfer in fields such as rehabilitation, thereby promoting economic restructuring and industrial transformation and upgrading in Pingyang. The center will also drive the growth of emerging industries including rehabilitation healthcare, rehabilitation devices, veterinary medicine, and pet rehabilitation equipment. It is set to become a key scientific and technological force supporting Pingyang's innovation-driven development strategy, building a nationally renowned hub for rehabilitation talent and a demonstration zone for industrial transformation.

“This deeper strategic collaboration between Pingyang County and Wenzhou Medical University marks a significant step toward sincere cooperation and deeper integration between higher education and healthcare development,” said Zhang Shouyu, Secretary of the Pingyang County Committee. He emphasized that Pingyang will fully commit to developing and utilizing the Zhejiang South Rehabilitation Industry Transformation Center, establishing a One Health research base, and engaging in close collaboration across areas such as education and training, talent development, scientific research, technological innovation, and technology transfer. These efforts will comprehensively serve the development of Wenzhou's medical and wellness industry and elevate university-local integration to new heights.

The meeting also featured the inauguration ceremonies of the Zhejiang South Rehabilitation Industry Transformation Center and the iRest Intelligent Rehabilitation Technology Engineering R&D Center, the establishment of the Pingyang Rural Commercial Bank Health Development Charitable Fund, and the signing of a cooperation agreement between Wenzhou Medical University and Zhejiang Haozhonghao Health Products Co., Ltd.
