The Department of Rehabilitation of Wenzhou Medical University was established in 2003 and began to recruit undergraduate science students majoring in rehabilitation therapy in 2004. In 2007, it began to recruit master's students in rehabilitation medicine and physiotherapy, established a doctoral program in rehabilitation medicine in 2017 and began to recruit doctoral students in the following year, and was approved as a doctoral program in medical technology (rehabilitation direction) in 2021, becoming the first batch of rehabilitation disciplines with double doctoral programs in China, and in the same year, the School of Rehabilitation Medicine was jointly established with the China Rehabilitation Medical Center, and Academician Li Xiaokun of the Chinese Academy of Engineering personally served as the dean of the School of Rehabilitation Medicine, and in 2022, rehabilitation therapy was selected as a national first-class professional construction site.

There are 63 professional teachers, including 1 doctoral supervisor and 7 master's supervisors. 15 doctors. The major of rehabilitation therapy has a physical therapy laboratory, an occupational therapy laboratory, a children's rehabilitation training laboratory, a VR intelligent rehabilitation laboratory, an acupuncture physiotherapy room, a speech training room, an awareness training room, an electromyography evaluation room and a number of practice bases inside and outside the province. After 20 years of school-running practice, it has formed relatively distinctive professional school-running characteristics, including the core competency-oriented talent training concept, the market-oriented talent training model, the scientific curriculum structure, and the construction of a three-dimensional comprehensive practice system.
